Q: What are your best tips for hand-washing items at home?
A: Before you start washing your items in the tub or sink, be sure to clean it! Next, pretreat any stains with The Laundress Stain Solution.
If you’re washing cotton, linen, or durable synthetics (such as polyester), run warm water long enough to cover the garments. Next, add the appropriate amount of our Signature Detergent , agitate the water with your hands, and let everything soak for 30 minutes.
Now drain the soapy water and remove the laundry by pressing each item against the edge of the tub or sink. Refill with clean, warm water, add in the garments, swirl to rinse away the duds, then drain once more. Do not wring your clothes, as that will damage the fibers. Instead, press garments against a flat surface (like the edge of your bathtub) to get rid of excess water. Hang or lay flat to dry.
If you’re washing silk or delicate synthetics, follow the same steps and use cool water and Delicate Wash; for wool, cashmere, or other knits, use cool water plus our Wool & Cashmere Shampoo.
Q: What is your favorite city to travel to?
A: Paris. I would live there now if I could! I know the city very well, but each time I travel there I discover new places to eat, visit, and shop. I love the architecture, language, food, and fashion.
Q: What’s your favorite type of flower?
A: This is a tough one because I dream about owning a flower shop one day! I have my own “hydrangea farm” as my friends call it when they visit my home in Shelter Island, NY. However, I would have to say peonies because they were the flower in my wedding bouquet.
Q: What is your life-long hobby?
A: I love to paint. Over the last 9 years, this hobby has become more like arts and crafts with my children. I absolutely love creating and painting with them. My mom is an artist too so I remember painting with her at a very young age.
Q: What’s your favorite interior design trend?
A: I love cheetah and camouflage prints for home décor, and on clothing too. Fortuny has a beautiful hand-painted camouflage fabric that will be making its way into my home.

Q: What’s your favorite comfort food?
A: Grilled cheese with tomato—my mom makes the best grilled cheese! Sometimes we add ham to them, similar to a croque monsieur.
