Q: What does “walk like a woman” mean to you?
A: It’s important to feel confident and having a distinct personal style can be a part of confidence. Women understand that to have confidence you don’t need to know all of the answers, all of the time, but it helps to know the questions to ask to get there. For me, to “walk like a woman” means to be authentic, respect yourself, be true to and comfortable with who you are.
Q: If you could walk in any woman’s shoes, whose would it be?
A: Gloria Steinem and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. These women have spent their lives championing for a gender equal society, and they have had a transformative impact on the world for the better. I admire many millennial women I know, too. Writers, journalists, artists, change makers and women business owners like Sarah Flint! They are our future and we are lucky for it.
Q: Flats or heels?
A: For years, I wore a lot of heels, but I have always embraced the loafer and the Lauren Bacall inspired look. I’m not sure if Sarah knew that about me when she designed The Alysia – or that I absolutely love tartan. When she paired the flat with the plaid – together they are a perfect match for me. For everyone actually.
Q: What is your hidden secret power?
A: My sister would say I have a nonsense detector – with people and circumstances – but I would say I have equanimity under pressure, and use humor to disarm a situation without sacrificing the seriousness of purpose. Art world is complex and multi-faceted and can look easy when in reality it takes hard work and expertise. It’s like the ballerina – the more flawless the performance, the more effort it took to accomplish.
